Anonymously record your spending
Problem #1

Only about 2% of total spending in the US

is spent at Black-owned businesses.

Problem #2 (from a 2008 analysis)

White-owned businesses Average $439,579 in annual sales

Black-owned firms?

$74,018.

Problem #3 (from a 2004 report)

For every $100 spent in a majority-Black community

At grocers, gas stations, insurance agencies, etc - about $95 will leave that community.

This initiative is about power.

Economic power will not solve inequality on its own, but is a small piece of the larger puzzle which we can all affect with our daily decision-making.

How can I participate?

Commit to using your dollars.

This is an exercise in conscious spending.

It's simple: each Friday, choose to join this entire community in pledging to only spend money at the Black-owned businesses in your community or online.

Goals

image2

To prove the power of collective action.

When we work together for common goals we believe in, we create lasting Movements.

to discover and commit to regularly supporting the black-owned businesses in our communities.

Celebrating the amazing businesses in our communities to create a culture of support and inclusion will spawn other new and successful ventures.

To increase community awareness of unconscious economic disparities.

That exist in our default spending habits and patterns, in a concerted effort to overcome them.

To encourage conscious spending habits that last.

That reach far beyond a single day, a single neighborhood, a single business, or a single transaction.
